Salma Hayak Reports Her Husband’s Proposal Was Like An Intervention

(PresidentialHill.com)- Salma Hayek’s wedding does not read like a fairy tale. It reads more like… well, read on.

“I didn’t even know I was getting married that day. It was like an intervention. I don’t think I ever told this story,” Hayek said.

Despite marrying on Valentine’s Day, Hayek’s wedding wasn’t all hearts, flowers, and romance. The actress, 57, recalled having ‘no choice’ in the matter as she was brought to a courthouse.

She married French billionaire businessman François-Henri Pinault in 2009. And she has now revealed that she didn’t have a say in the nuptials, which were sprung upon her by family and friends.

Salma and François-Henri tied the knot in a low-key civil ceremony on February 14, 2009, with only family in attendance, before rolling out the lavish celebrations two months later for an A-list wedding bash.

“They just took me to court. My parents, and my brother, were all ganging up on me. I had a phobia of the marriage thing. The reason it was a courthouse wedding was that they dragged me there. I was nervous,” Hayek said.

She said after there was lunch at his parents’ house. Her mother-in-law, “the most tasteful person when it comes to entertaining,” had already prepared the lunch. “I had no choice,” she said.

Later that year, the couple welcomed close friends in April for a weekend celebration in Venice. The weekend celebrations featured a masquerade ball-style rehearsal dinner, before Salma was stunning in a Balenciaga gown for a romantic ceremony at La Fenice opera house.

Hayek says her marriage is strong, and while she may not have had a say in her initial wedding, the spark is still there.

Salma explained the secret to keeping the marriage fresh and noted that it is the ‘little things’ as she enjoys just ‘doing nothing together’ with her other half.

It’s slightly different when you can “do nothing” in Venice, Paris, and Barcelona, as opposed to doing nothing in your split-level in Des Moines.
