(PresidentialHill.com)- Last week, Senior Advisor to the White House Counsel’s Office, Ian Sams, refused to answer questions about President Biden’s ongoing classified document scandal and instead directed all questions to the Justice Department.
During an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” last Monday, Sams was asked by co-host Mika Brzezinski how Biden could have taken home classified documents when Congressman Adam Schiff said it was unusual for any classified information to leave a SCIF.
Rather than answer her, Sams repeated the oft-repeated claims from the Biden White House that the president takes classified documents seriously and he is “fully cooperating with the Department of Justice.”
Singing from the White House hymnal, Sams told Brzezinski that the White House was “following the DOJ’s lead” and making sure the DOJ has access to whatever information it needed to “conduct an efficient and thorough review.” Sams said this was why Biden’s lawyers permitted the FBI to search his Wilmington home.
He repeated the White House talking points on how Biden and his lawyers did everything right when they immediately contacted the National Archives and the Justice Department after finding classified records at the Penn Biden Center in November.
He said Biden “believes in the rule of law” and “understands the importance of an independent Justice Department,” repeating that this is why Biden gave them “access to the information” the DOJ needed to “conduct a thorough review.”
He said once the Justice Department completed its review, it will “present the full set of facts.”
Surprisingly, Brzezinski pointed out that Sams didn’t answer her question. After making a dig at former President Trump, she asked again how Biden could have ended up with classified documents and if Sams agreed with her that Biden having the documents “is a serious issue.”
Sams again said the president “takes this very seriously” and repeated all of the talking points he already gave.
When Sams said the Justice Department would explain how this happened, co-host Joe Scarborough cut him off to ask why the DOJ would need to tell President Biden why Biden had classified documents in his home.
Rather than answer, Sams said the Justice Department is “tasked with finding out all of the facts” and the White House is fully cooperating. He said the White House hopes that “we can get all the answers out there.”
