Tulsi Gabbard Says She’s Open to Working in Trump Cabinet

Former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has confirmed she is open to serving in a future Donald Trump cabinet. Gabbard stated her intent during an interview with Brian Kilmeade, where she expressed her commitment to “exposing” Kamala Harris’s record, and continuing to do so even after election day, regardless of the result. Ms. Gabbard has previously clashed with the Vice President on the debate stage and reportedly helped prepare former President Trump for September’s event in Philadelphia, where he faced Kamala Harris for the first time.

During the 2019 Democrat primaries, Gabbard provided one of the more memorable moments when she lashed out at Harris over her record as a California prosecutor. The former Hawaii Rep. declared that then-Senator Harris jailed more than 1,500 people for using marijuana, even while confessing she had done so herself as a student. Gabbard also accused Harris of preventing the release of an innocent man from death row. She said she was surprised that more people weren’t aware of Ms. Harris’s history, given how easy it was to find it.

Ms. Gabbard remained in the 2019 race longer than Harris but would only stay in the Democratic Party for two more years. In October 2022, the former Congresswoman posted a video to social media where she denounced Democrats for “racializing every issue” and being hostile to people of faith. Gabbard also accused her party of demonizing the police, working against law-abiding citizens, and above all, “dragging us ever closer to nuclear war.”

In August, Ms. Gabbard announced her support of Republican candidate Donald Trump, joining another former Democrat, Robert F. Kennedy. Both now serve on Trump’s “transition team” and will help him appoint people to appropriate roles if the former President returns to the White House next year.

Appearing on stage with Mr. Trump in Michigan, Gabbard called on Republicans, Democrats, and independents to recognize current threats to America and to elect Donald Trump and “save our country.” Mr. Kennedy made similar remarks when he attended a Trump rally in Arizona. He said Trump would “make America healthy again” and protect the American people from “totalitarianism.”
