Ocasio-Cortez Accused Of Breaking Federal Law

(PresidentialHill.com)- The congressional ethics board’s (OCE) investigation against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, which has been ongoing since December, has recently intensified.

There are substantial grounds to suspect that she took unlawful gifts linked with her appearance at the Met Gala in 2021. This is according to a press announcement from the board. In addition, the board now seems to believe that she violated federal law rather than merely House rules.

The OCE said in a report released on Thursday that AOC has now paid for the value of the attire she wore to the Met Gala and for the gifts she and her partner received in connection with this September 2021 event; the payment did not occur until after the OCE alerted her to her violations.

The ethics board’s staff is apolitical, and its members are equally distributed among both major political parties. That says a lot about the strength of the evidence that not a single Democrat voted against moving the subject forward, and they used harsh language in the ruling.

Ocasio-Cortez first caused controversy when she attended the Met Gala in New York City in 2021 wearing a dress with the words “tax the rich” on it. Several people at the time may have wondered how she could afford the plane ticket, the expensive clothing, and the “servants” she brought along. The garment was estimated to cost over $40,000, with the Met Gala ticket price alone being $30,000.

It is common knowledge that Ocasio-Cortez took the plane ticket, the clothing, and potentially additional perks as presents. Unfortunately, though, such conduct is illegal under federal law.

What will become of Ocasio-Cortez now?

Analysts say, “not much.”

The present DOJ leadership won’t seek criminal charges even if a final investigation reveals she violated federal law. There seems to be unequal protection under the law regarding Democrats. They usually skate.

The same congressional ethics body is also investigating George Santos, and journalists like CNN’s Manu Raju can’t help but report on it. Nevertheless, the media is not hammering away 24/7 on AOC’s ethics violation.
