A fugitive murder suspect wanted by Interpol was successfully captured by the Splendora Police Department on May 24th in cooperation with federal law enforcement partners.
The suspect, named by officials as Leo Acosta Sanchez, was known to be traveling between Splendora and her Terrenos, Mexico, residence. Sanchez had been living in the US illegally.
Acosta entered the US in 2023 as a non-immigrant and violated the conditions of her entrance, according to ICE. She is still in ICE detention until her immigration case is resolved.
Sanchez is charged with helping to kill Fidel González, 27, a resident of Veracruz, Mexico.
According to a Mexican news outlet, on August 13, 2023, González was fatally wounded outside his house by a male friend after he supposedly got a call from Sanchez urging him to step outside.
Sanchez is one of the four persons who have now been taken into custody in connection with the murder. According to González’s family, three additional persons, including the individual who fired the gun, have not yet been apprehended.
Social media users hailed Sanchez’s arrest, including several comments on a Facebook post from the Splendora Police Department.
The Veracruz-linked community living in Texas commended the Splendora Police Department for a job well done and for taking additional steps and attempts to identify the female suspect.
According to the authorities, Splendora police officers recognized the woman driving and quickly called for assistance during a regular patrol. The traffic stop followed the arrival of more units, which resulted in Sanchez’s arrest. Sanchez was detained in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to face charges related to the purported offenses.
