(PresidentialHill.com)- Former presidential candidate Senator Mitt Romney of Utah delivered a blistering attack on American foreign policy, settling a score that goes way back to his 2012 presidential campaign against Barack Obama.
In 2012, Romney was roundly mocked for stating that Russia was a threat, with Obama joking at the time that the 1980s want their foreign policy back.
But, now that Russia is proving more of a threat than ever, Romney had some major criticism for Democrats who ignored him.
“Putin’s Ukraine invasion is the first time in 80 years that a great power has moved to conquer a sovereign nation,” Romney said on Twitter.
It’s important to note that while Russia annexed Ukraine in2014, his efforts were focused solely on the Crimean peninsula and he did not bomb the entirety of Ukraine to take control of the region. This time, the entirety of Ukraine has been hit by bombs and missiles.
“It is without justification, without provocation and without honor. Putin’s impunity predictably follows our tepid response to his previous horrors in Georgia and Crimea, our naive efforts at a one-sided ‘reset,’ and the shortsightedness of ‘America First,’” Romney said, criticizing President Donald Trump and most Republicans at the same time.
It sounds an awful lot like Romney wants to go to war.
“The 80s called and we didn’t answer,” he added, referencing the 2012-era argument with President Barack Obama.
The invasion of Ukraine may never have happened if President Donald Trump was still in power, but at least (most) Democrats and Republicans can agree that going to war is a bad idea…
