Duda Farm Fresh Foods Recalls Celery Sticks Over Listeria Concerns
In a precautionary measure, Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. has voluntarily recalled 1,587 cases of Marketside celery sticks sold at Walmart stores across 29 states due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects 4-pack, 1.6 oz bundles with UPC code 6 81131 16151 0, Lot Code P047650, and a “Best if Used by” date of March 23, 2025. Although the product is past its expiration date and no longer available in stores, consumers may still have it stored in their freezers.
Watch FDA’s announcement on the recall.
The potential contamination was discovered during routine random sampling conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, which returned a positive test for Listeria in a package of the celery sticks at a Georgia retail location. According to the recall notice, Listeria monocytogenes “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.” While healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like fever and nausea, the bacteria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
Health Risks and Consumer Guidance
No illnesses have been reported as of now, but out of an abundance of caution, consumers are urged to discard any affected celery sticks, even if frozen. The recall is limited to this specific batch and does not impact other products by Duda Farm Fresh Foods or under the Marketside label.
