(PresidentialHill.com)- Vice President Kamala Harris has often been criticized for the way that she laughs—her cackle is notorious among those on the right who find it deeply irritating. Hillary Clinton’s laugh was also the subject of irritation, not only from former President Trump, who released a campaign video of her laughing after the Benghazi attack, but also from those in her camp.
One staffer had reportedly written an email observing that she laughs too hard at jokes that are not funny, according to a report from defense and national security website 19FortyFive.
But now Harris is the one that conservatives are scorning. Several videos have surfaced over the last two years that show the vice president cackling, even in moments where nothing funny was said. The videos appear awkward and “cringe” at best, according to some.
Tim Blair, writing for the Daily Telegraph, reportedly described the painful laugh as “the biggest, destructive, negative force probably ever unleashed in American politics.” He continued to say that even if she was brilliant and solved every problem on Earth, in the Middle East, and climate change, her laugh still would not cause anyone to vote for her.
Harris, who served as an attorney general and senator of California, finished the Democratic primary at just over 8% in her state, which indicated that she struggled to build support, according to Breitbart.
Those who support the vice president came to her defense, attributing the criticism to sexism and misogyny. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Arisha Hatch, vice president of Color of Change, said critics would find something to focus on like her smile or clothing if there was no laugh. She then said that this shows how “women of color” have a difficult time being leaders.
CNN’s Bakari Sellers called Harris a “great spirit.”
