A Project 2025 author is helping Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance to prepare for a debate with Democratic rival Tim Walz. Former Trump administration official Monica Crowley, who contributes to the controversial Heritage Foundation document, is working alongside House GOP Whip Tom Emmer, a long-time colleague of Walz in Minnesota. Crowley reportedly plays the moderator role in the debate rehearsals, while Emmer pretends to be Governor Walz. The partnership with Crowley will likely bolster claims that Donald Trump is lying when he says he has no connection to Project 2025.
The former President insists he does not know who created the 900-plus-page document and hasn’t read it. But critics point out that its team of authors includes six former Cabinet secretaries from the Trump administration, four Trump ambassador nominees, and several members of his White House team. JD Vance seemingly has a close relationship with Heritage Foundation leader Kevin Roberts and wrote the foreword for his recent book.
Additionally, groups that advised the Heritage Foundation on its blueprint contain individuals who have worked closely with Trump. CNN states that there are 240 people in total with connections to Donald Trump and Project 2025.
The documents contain a list of ideas and proposals to enforce conservative and religious values into American society. It would also give President Trump immense power and provide a framework for clearing out the administrative state and replacing fired employees with Trump loyalists. It would place the Department of Justice under Presidential control and allow the commander-in-chief to legislate unilaterally. It also calls for a complete overhaul of the FBI and Education Department.
Project 2025’s Mandate for Leadership mentions abortion around 200 times and calls for the withdrawal of Mifepristone and a federal ban on transporting it through the post. It seeks a “biblically based, social science-reinforced definition of marriage and family.” Nevertheless, its proposals differ significantly from those contained within the Republican Party manifesto, where abortion is only referenced once, and no restrictions on Mifepristone are mentioned.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives would also be scrapped by Project 2025, which promises a crackdown on “woke” ideologies.
