James Comer Exposes Biden Admin Deception On Energy Policy

Biden’s energy policies are under fire again as House Oversight Chairman James Comer exposes the administration’s deception. The Department of Energy allegedly buried a crucial study on liquefied natural gas exports that contradicted the White House’s climate agenda.

At a glance:

• House Oversight Chairman James Comer is investigating Biden’s pause on LNG export permits

• A 2023 DOE study showing LNG exports had minimal environmental impact was hidden from Congress

• The study contradicted Biden administration claims about consumer prices and environmental harm

• Trump’s DOE Secretary Chris Wright recently provided the withheld study to the Oversight Committee

• Chairman Comer praised the Trump administration for transparency while blasting Biden officials

Biden Administration Concealed Favorable LNG Export Study

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has uncovered what appears to be a deliberate attempt by the Biden administration to hide scientific evidence that contradicted its climate agenda. Chairman James Comer has launched an investigation into the Department of Energy’s decision to withhold a 2023 study on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports that found no significant environmental or economic downsides. It appeared to be another instance of Democrats manipulating evidence to fit their agenda.

The study, titled “Energy, Economic, and Environmental Assessment of U.S. LNG Exports,” was completed by September 2023 but remained hidden until Trump’s DOE recently provided it to Congress. Experts predict President Trump will reverse Biden’s LNG export ban that was imposed in January 2024.

The hidden DOE report directly contradicted claims made by Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and other Biden officials who insisted increased LNG exports would raise consumer prices and harm the environment. Instead, the study found minimal impact on both greenhouse gas emissions and energy prices.

Transparency Concerns and Congressional Oversight

Chairman Comer did not mince words in his assessment of the Biden administration’s actions. “Biden Administration officials, who religiously claimed to ‘follow the science,’ abandoned it to undermine American-made energy production, appease climate activists, and achieve their predetermined outcomes,” Comer stated in an official release.

The House Oversight Committee began seeking information on the LNG export ban in March 2024, holding a briefing in April with DOE officials. During that process, Assistant Secretary Brad Crabtree claimed he was unaware of any 2023 study, stating that “a complete study did not exist in 2023.”

Secretary Granholm further muddied the waters in May 2024 when she claimed that an updated study “will be complete in the first quarter of next year.” These statements now appear misleading in light of the completed 2023 study that was recently provided to Congress.

The existence of the study was only confirmed after a Government Accountability Office court filing in September 2024 revealed DOE had indeed conducted an LNG study in 2023. Chairman Comer and other Republican lawmakers demanded its release last October.

Trump Administration Praised for Energy Transparency

The latest controversy once again highlights stark differences between the Trump and Biden approaches to American energy production. While the Biden administration implemented restrictions on LNG exports to countries without free trade agreements, the Trump administration has said it will prioritize American energy independence and exports.

Industry experts expect the incoming Trump administration to quickly reverse Biden’s LNG export pause. The hidden study provides strong scientific backing for such a reversal, confirming that increased exports would benefit the American economy without significant environmental drawbacks.
