Haiti Gang Attack Sees 115 KILLED – Why Do We Import These People?

Haitai is plagued by violence – so much so that the death toll from a recent gang attack has now reached 115.

It leaves us wondering…why do we allow such huge numbers of Haitians into the United States?

At a glance:

  • The death toll from the October 3 gang attack in Pont-Sondé, Haiti, has risen to 115 and is expected to increase.
  • Survivors criticize authorities for failing to intervene despite prior warnings of the attack.
  • Over 6,200 people have fled the area, with many displaced seeking refuge in nearby Saint-Marc.

The death toll from a recent gang attack in Pont-Sondé, Haiti, has climbed to at least 115, according to Myriam Fièvre, the mayor of nearby Saint-Marc. This attack, which took place on October 3, marks one of the deadliest massacres in Haiti in recent years. As authorities continue to search for bodies and access more remote areas, the number of victims is expected to rise.

The Gran Grif gang, responsible for the assault, stormed the town in Haiti’s central Artibonite region, killing a wide range of victims, including babies, mothers, and the elderly. The gang reportedly arrived by canoe, catching residents by surprise, despite having posted a video on social media announcing their plans to target the town.

Survivors of the massacre have expressed frustration and disbelief at the lack of government intervention. Although the gang had openly declared its intentions to attack Pont-Sondé, authorities failed to act in time. In the aftermath, the police commissioner overseeing the region was replaced, but this has done little to quell the growing violence in the area.

Fièvre told the Associated Press that the security situation remains dire as the Gran Grif gang is now spreading its influence into nearby communities. Over 6,200 people have fled Pont-Sondé, seeking refuge in Saint-Marc and surrounding areas. Many are staying with relatives, but more than 750 displaced individuals are taking shelter in a church, school, and public plaza, according to the U.N.’s International Organization for Migration.

Gran Grif is a notorious gang with about 100 members, known for its involvement in murder, rape, robbery, and kidnappings. The group is said to have been formed nearly a decade ago by former legislator Prophane Victor, who armed young men to solidify his control over the region. The gang’s recent assault on Pont-Sondé was reportedly in retaliation against a local self-defense group attempting to block the gang’s operations.

The U.S. and the U.N. have sanctioned both Victor and Gran Grif leader Luckson Elan, with the U.N. describing Gran Grif as the largest and most powerful gang in the Artibonite region. The group is linked to numerous mass kidnappings, including the abduction of 157 people between October 2023 and January 2024.

As the humanitarian crisis worsens, authorities are working to protect residents and prevent further violence from the powerful gang, but the situation remains highly unstable.
