Demi Moore Opens Up About Struggles of Aging in Hollywood

Hollywood star Demi Moore has spoken out about the realities of being a woman over 40 in Tinseltown. During a media interview, Moore discussed a scene she filmed wearing a bikini in the movie “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” at age 40. The actress said the analysis that followed focused solely on how she looked, prompting her to believe that she no longer had a place in Hollywood.

Moore, now 61, has recently finished filming a horror movie, “The Substance,” in which she plays a 50-year-old woman offered a chance to make herself younger, with disturbing effects. She said the film provided her an opportunity to explore the issue of aging and “societal conditioning” that places pressure on women to live up to a “male-idealized” image of them. Critics have called it the best performance of her career.

While less visible in Hollywood in recent years, Demi Moore was once its highest-paid actress, earning in excess of $10 million per movie. Her net worth is in the region of $200 million, and in the 1990s, she starred in some of the biggest movies in the world. In 1990, she had the lead female role in “Ghost,” alongside Patrick Swayze, elevating her to superstardom. Two years later, she starred opposite Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson in the smash hit “A Few Good Men,” and the following year, she took the lead role in “Indecent Proposal.”

Born Demetria Guynes to a teenage mom in New Mexico in 1962, the actress had a tumultuous childhood and lived in more than 30 homes before her mother finally settled in Southern California. At age 15, she was raped by her mother’s friend and dropped out of high school the following year. She adopted the name Moore from musician Freddy Moore, whom she married at age 18. Following years of alcohol and drug abuse, she divorced Moore in the 1980s before her acting career took off with a role in the daytime soap opera “General Hospital.”

Moore married fellow Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis in 1987, and the couple had three daughters. The glamorous pair divorced in 2000 but said they still loved each other and would remain close friends.
