Television personality, comedian, and radio host Charlamagne tha God slammed President Joe Biden for briefly putting a Trump hat on his head during a recent visit to Pennsylvania for a 9/11 anniversary event.
“The Breakfast Club” host said during his show on Thursday, Sept. 12, that the “donkey of the day” went to the president for the hat stunt.
The incident happened in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Biden paid a visit to a fire station during the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Biden approached a man wearing a hat from the campaign of former President Donald Trump and offered him a new hat with the presidential seal on it. The man asked if Biden would sign, to which the president agreed. The man then asked if Biden remembered his own name, calling him “an old fart.”
The somewhat awkward exchange ended with Biden asking to trade for the Trump hat. While holding it, a few people in the room shouted to “put it on,” and then Biden briefly placed the hat on his head on top of the hat he was already wearing. Video footage and a picture of him wearing the hat quickly went viral and Trump supporters began to joke that Biden was endorsing Trump. Some even speculated if the move was a subtle attempt to sabotage Vice President Kamala Harris for allegedly pushing him out of the race as the Democratic nominee.
Biden also drew some laughter from the crowd after he said, “No eating dogs and cats,” referencing a remark made by Trump during his debate with Harris in which the former president claimed Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating residents’ pets.
Charlamagne tha God, whose real name is Lenard Larry McKelvey, said the election could be swung “by just the tiniest ration of votes,” something he said doesn’t fair well for the Democratic Party because the former president will “challenge the results.” He urged Democrats to turn out at the polls.
The radio host asked the president why he was “wearing paraphernalia” supporting Trump while claiming he is “a threat to democracy.” He said he was “all for bipartisan togetherness, but not while they were “trying to win an election.” McKelvey advised Biden to “move like a VP” for the rest of the race and to “be quiet.”
