(PresidentialHill.com)- Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged from the hospital Tuesday morning after spending the night undergoing tests for abdominal pain.
Bolsonaro, who has begun campaigning for re-election in October, was scheduled to attend a political meeting of Brazil’s Republican Party on Monday but failed to appear. Party president Marcos Pereira announced at the event that Bolsonaro had been hospitalized in Brasilia after experiencing abdominal discomfort.
According to Communications Minster Fabio Faria, the president was “super well” after leaving the hospital.
Despite his hospitalization, Bolsonaro was able to keep his Tuesday schedule unchanged. He traveled to Ponta Poro on the border with Paraguay where he attended an event Tuesday morning.
While campaigning in the town of Juiz de Fora in 2018, Bolsonaro was left in serious condition after a man rushed up to him and stabbed him in the abdomen as Bolsonaro was being carried through a crowd on the shoulders of a supporter.
At the time of the stabbing, Bolsonaro’s son said he was “almost dead” by the time he arrived at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia hospital.
Since that incident, Bolsonaro has undergone multiple surgeries, including surgeries to correct a hernia that developed in the wounded area.
In January, he was hospitalized to clear an intestinal obstruction and was released two days later without needing surgery.
Last July, the president was hospitalized with severe stomach pains after suffering eleven days of hiccups. He was treated without surgery.
Bolsonaro announced his re-election campaign on Sunday.
