Border Agents Say They’ll QUIT If Harris Wins

If Vice President Kamala Harris wins the presidential election in November, we’ll have a crisis on the border for two reasons: she won’t do anything to secure it, and the border agents say they’ll just quit.

At a glance:

  • Border Patrol agents are threatening to leave en masse if Kamala Harris wins the presidential election, citing low morale and frustrations with current policies.
  • Over 4,000 employees have already left the agency since 2020, leaving significant staffing shortages.
  • The National Border Patrol Council endorsed Donald Trump, with many agents planning to stay if he wins.

Border Patrol agents are expressing deep frustration with the current administration, and many are threatening to quit if Vice President Kamala Harris is elected president in November. Agents are citing low morale, lack of support, and the undermining of their work as reasons for their potential exodus. One agent told the New York Post that he’s “not doing this s*** again” if Harris wins, referring to what he described as “four years of hell” under the Biden-Harris administration.

The discontent among Border Patrol agents has been building over the past few years, with over 4,000 employees leaving the agency since October 2020, according to the Washington Examiner. This has left the Border Patrol with only around 19,000 employees tasked with securing the nation’s borders. Despite recruitment efforts that increased bonuses from $10,000 to $30,000, staffing shortages remain a critical issue.

The National Border Patrol Council, which represents the agents, endorsed former President Donald Trump on Monday, signaling where most agents’ loyalties lie. Several agents told the New York Post that if Trump wins, they are more likely to stay in their positions. However, if Harris wins, there is concern that the agency will experience a mass exodus of both retirement-eligible and younger, experienced agents.

“We will have another exodus,” one agent said, adding that he expects agents with 5 to 10 years of experience to leave for other job opportunities. Another agent stated he was “absolutely sure” he would leave the agency if Harris is elected.

Morale within the agency has been particularly low during the Biden-Harris administration, with agents feeling that their efforts are being undermined. They are frustrated by policies that seem to make their job “inefficient,” as one agent described watching criminals being released after being apprehended at the border.

The crisis of morale has also led to an alarming spike in suicides among Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents. In 2022, the agency saw its worst year, with 15 agents taking their own lives. In response, CBP hired a licensed clinical psychologist and a board-certified behavior analyst to address the mental health struggles within the agency.

If Harris is elected, it is expected that the staffing crisis at the Border Patrol will only deepen, with many agents ready to exit due to frustrations over the lack of support and ineffective policies. Meanwhile, Trump has pledged to increase Border Patrol ranks by 10,000 new agents if he wins the presidency.

The choice is obvious…
