A Case Frozen in Time—Until Now
On June 4, 2010, 7-year-old Kyron Horman disappeared without a trace after attending a science fair at Skyline Elementary in Portland. His stepmother, Terri Horman, claimed she dropped him off that morning, but his sudden disappearance launched one of the most extensive search operations in Oregon history—mobilizing law enforcement, the FBI, and thousands of volunteers.

Despite early efforts, no suspects were charged, and public frustration mounted. His mother, Desiree Young, has remained an outspoken advocate, stating: “It’s been a passion of mine to do as much as I can to keep this case moving forward and to help law enforcement get some answers.”
Tech-Fueled Renewal of the Search
Now, as the 15th anniversary of his disappearance approaches, investigators have launched a modernized review of the case. Working with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is digitizing years of case data in hopes that artificial intelligence and forensic software will detect new patterns or missed leads.
“We have never stopped searching for Kyron,” said Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell. “With the support of our partners and the public, we are actively pursuing every credible investigative opportunity.”
Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez echoed the urgency: “My office has begun a thorough and methodical review of the case with fresh eyes,” reaffirming his commitment to the investigation.
A Family’s Long Wait for Answers
While digital forensics may offer renewed promise, the emotional weight of the case endures. The Sheriff’s Office still receives tips every year—each one meticulously reviewed for any hint of resolution. A $50,000 reward remains in place, encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
For Kyron’s family, hope persists against the odds. And for investigators, this is no cold case—it’s an open wound they are still fighting to heal.
With new tools and renewed resolve, the search for Kyron Horman isn’t over. It’s just entering its next chapter.
